Gunsmoke: Around Dodge City
Was very familiar with the tv series but had never heard the original radio program. I've really enjoyed it, and I think I prefer William Conrad's Matt Dillon to the James Arness tv version. It's funny how a western can be adapted to radio, but with the way the scripts are done, and the great sound effects, it works! Good performances too. I love the nice sturdy cd case and the booklet with background on the show and episode guide. A very nice item and definitely five-stars!

Around Dodge City
If there is an exemplar among Old Time Radio shows, it has to be Gunsmoke. There are very few OTR series that are as well written or well acted as this series. As acted by William Conrad, Matt Dillon is one of the most complex and sympathetic western heroes ever created. He is doing a job that he sometimes hates, but he always answers the call of duty, regardless of the personal cost to himself. Conrad's ability to evoke Dillon's personal pain and hardship with only the sound of his voice is an amazing thing to hear. The supporting cast is also remarkable. Chester, the dull-witted but dependable deputy, Doc Adams, the gruff but dedicated frontier sawbones, and Kitty, the whore with the heart of gold, are a family that keep Dillon sane. Those that only know Gunsmoke from the TV series will, I think, be amazed at how much better this radio drama is. It's one for the ages.

Great Western
I love these Gunsmoke audio CD’s. I listen to them every night when I go to bed. I’ve collected all of this series so far. They’re great stories on all of them. Hoping they put some more out.
