Product Description
From start to finish, Dragnet brings you a real-life police drama of unprecedented realism. When the series hit the air in 1949, there was nothing else like it, anywhere. In this collection, Jack Webb and Barton Yarborough star in twenty broadcasts from the earliest months of radio's landmark police procedural.
Listen in as Joe Friday and Ben Romero keep Los Angeles safe from killers, burglars, swindlers, and common punks. Webb was one of the most distinctive actors, directors, and producers ever to work in American radio. And the episodes you're about to hear will demonstrate that.

Dragnet The Big Make
I think it's safe to say that every police drama from the 1950s on owes a great debt to Dragnet. Jack Webb brought a level of authenticity to police drama that hadn't existed before him but has been the foundation of every show afterward. It's fun to watch Friday and his various partners investigate crimes with the barest of clues and scientific help that was just barely out of the stone age. I grew up with Dragnet and have listened to countless episodes and it's something of a marvel how, in less than 30 minutes, Webb creates dramatic tension and holds the listener's attention just with his voice and the voices of the other actors. These are marvelous pieces of old time radio and also the beginning of a type of drama that is still with us today on television. It's impossible to be bored and I can't recommend Dragnet to highly to both new and experienced Old Time Radio enthusiasts.
